The transfer window in all of Europe's big five leagues is now closed, but that doesn't stop Transfer Talk from rummaging through the remains of the summer window to scrounge up the earliest bit of gossip about who will be moving where come January.

United 'had hired private jet for Godin'

Manchester United suffered plenty of frustration in their efforts to sign a central defender before the deadline, but the Mirror says they were all but certain that Deigo Godin would join from Atletico Madrid.

After reports that players including Tottenham's Belgium international Toby Alderweireld and Bayern Munich's Germany defender Jerome Boateng could arrive had come to nothing, Godin emerged as a late contender to move to Old Trafford.

The Mirror reports that United "organised a private jet to fly him to the UK on deadline day, but were forced to cancel it after the deal broke down."

The jet had been due to bring the Uruguay international from Sardinia, where he was on holiday, to undergo a medical in Manchester.

United had triggered the 32-year-old's £18 million buyout clause -- but Godin was then offered and accepted a new deal from Atletico, staying put as Jose Mourinho's plans suffered another setback.

That reportedly led to a feeling at Old Trafford that Godin had used United's interest in him to secure another contract with the La Liga club.

China move on cards for Spurs' Dembele

Beijing Sinobo Guoan will make a new attempt to sign Tottenham midfielder Mousa Dembele after failing to bring him to the Chinese Super League earlier this year, according to the Sun.

It says Belgium international Dembele is once again in the Beijing club's sights after Spurs had refused to allow him to leave when they were interested in him the first time around.

But the picture may have changed because the 31-year-old's "reluctance to agree a new deal may force the North Londoners to sell him in January."

Dembele, who was also a reported summer target for Italian champions Juventus, will be out of contract next summer, meaning he would be free to sign a pre-contract agreement with an overseas club at the turn of the year.

And the Sun says that although Spurs "could force him to stay until June," Beijing are keen to do everything possible to bring him in "before their season begins in February."

-- New West Bromwich Albion striker Dwight Gayle has said he is ready for the pressure his move to The Hawthorns will bring after helping Newcastle win promotion from the Championship. The Express and Star reports that Gayle, who scored twice in the victory over Stoke, said his time at Newcastle taught him that "it's difficult to deal with it [the expectation of success], but it's part of football."
